How to Overcome Self-doubt

Self-doubt is all about when we do something , we have a lack of confidence and fear of our abilities.

Causes of self-doubt

There are many things that can cause a person to doubt themselves. If we get to know what are the reasons for self-doubt so that we can understand and we can work on it. Here are some of the common causes that lead to self-doubt.

Past experiences

Every person has a past which sums up to who they are today. While some of those experiences are educating and preparing us for life, some can be unmotivating and worse traumatic. People who failed, can believe that they are not cut out for this work. Their negative experiences leave a mark and even if they try to gather some motivation or try to be courageous, these black spots in their past stand as a wall that stops them. Our past experiences are instilling fear in us and for this reason, we start to doubt ourselves.

Discouragement

We all face discouragement at some parts of our life. It can be our teachers, it can be our best friend or it can be the close family members. Discouragement is the nemesis of our motivation. Each person’s tolerance to negative comments varies. Some close to their room and cry. Others can just turn their head away. They just keep doing what they want. These discouragements stay as one rooting cause of our self -doubts.

Indecisiveness

When making a decision, we check so many parameters to feel secure. We trust nothing will go wrong. Even after we check those things, we still feel insecure. We can’t be sure everything will go well. Our insecurities lead to indecisiveness and strengthen this questioning process. Small things look like big problems. We don’t feel ready to take action and always lose time in a state of stillness. In this state of paralysis called being indecisive, we lose so much time that we can make progress in our lives. Indecisiveness is an underlying cause of self-doubt. It impacts our lives negatively and reduces the quality of the taste we take from living.

Dependency on others

People are dependent creatures. We depend on our family for survival at an early age. We depend on our friends for the need to get social. But it is important for people to stand on their own feet. We all have individual goals and dreams to achieve. No one else is going to achieve those dreams in our stead. People who are dependent on others in a negative way, will lack self-confidence in their own goals. This dependency on others creates self-doubt in people’s minds. It’s an invisible wall where dependency on others gets negative on people but people should keep an eye open as it is the enemy at bay.
