How To Deal With Toxic People

Have you ever been in a relationship with a romantic partner, family members or friends which leaves you feeling emotionally drained, confused and miserable? Whenever you interact with them, you would feel empty, down and frustrated. If you say yes to the above question, most probably you are actually dealing with a toxic person in your life. In this blog, I have shared some ways to deal with toxic people.

Set and maintain healthy boundaries

Toxic people have a tendency to want to control other’s feelings as well as situations. They don’t know when to quit. In this situation, you should try to set limits or boundaries. Don’t invest too much or effort with toxic people. Maintaining your boundaries is challenging, but it is a necessary step towards moving on and healing from toxicity you’ve experienced. This step may feel guilty, it’s helpful to remember that no matter how much effort you put into the relationship, it may not be enough.

Say no clearly

Sticking to a refusal can be tough, especially when someone tries to guilt trip you into changing your mind.
But if you do decide to say “No”, don’t back down. A “No” doesn’t have to be a bad word, especially if you say it in a polite tone.

Set your priority

A toxic person wants to get things their way, and you might let them as much as you can. Focus on your work that truly matters and let them have the things that matter less. Set your priorities wisely.

Be aware of their destructive traits and patterns

When you get to know some signs of toxic people you will be able to know the patterns of their destruction. Be aware of it. Don’t be fooled by their tricky or manipulative actions.

Talk to them about it

Someone who gossips, manipulates others might not be aware that what they’re saying or doing is harming you or anyone else. Talk to him/her about their behaviour and what you’re experiencing. A heart-to-heart conversation can be beneficial.

Don’t share your secrets with them

Toxic people always like to gossip. They gossip about others to entertain themselves. If someone can share others’ secrets with you, They also can share your secrets with others. Therefore, it will be best to just avoid sharing secrets to such people. They are not trustworthy enough for you to spill your secrets.

Seek support from caring people

We all need supporting or caring people because a true friend is the best gift that keeps on adding to our lives fulfilment. Loyal friend doesn’t mean they only praise, but instead they always want to see you become the best version of yourself by motivating and giving sincere advice.

We communicate with a lot of people. Many of them are full of positive vibes and some are full of toxicity. Toxicity can show up in different forms. You might have a toxic friend/colleague and not even realise it. So, it’s better you look out for basic signs of a toxic person and respond appropriately.
