How To Enjoy Being Alone

We live in a world where we are always around either at work, in the store , and on our phones through social media. In fact some people think that being alone means being depressed but it is not like that. Some people are naturally happy alone. It is challenging for them who have almost forgotten how to enjoy their own company. Enjoying your own company is a skill. The ability of being alone has many perks to it.  You notice your strengths and weaknesses. You can reflect on your life and make better decisions for the future. Sitting somewhere and enjoying nature is invaluable. That’s why in this blog I have shared some ways to enjoy being alone :

Learn something new

Learning is the most important aspect of living alone and it helps to keep your brain engaged. When you spend time alone, You don’t have social boundaries and responsibilities. You can develop your skills deeper.

Spend time with nature

Research shows that 30 minutes or more a week spent in nature can improve symptoms of depression.

It can increase feelings of calmness and also promote happiness. You get to breathe in the fresh air. Feel the sun on your face, look up at the clouds in the sky, hear the birds chirp. It restores capacity of concentration and attention.

Find your hobbies

Another way to spend time alone is by having hobbies. Having or taking some time to be alone allows you to explore or re-explore those things you were once interested in but did not have time to do.

New hobbies increase our creative skills.

Take a break from social media

When we stay alone, we often use social media. Social media isn’t inherently bad or problematic but when we start to use social media over it makes us feel stressed. Social media can negatively affect our mental health and perception of the world around us. Life is not always as good as  it looks on social media. That’s why you should take a break from social media in a day for 30-45 minutes especially when you stay alone. 

Create a gratitude journal

It’s all too easy to get caught up focusing on what you don’t have. Make a list of the things they are thankful for physically, emotionally, and spiritually every morning and evening, especially when you stay alone.

It helps to maximize numbers of daily activity.

Stop comparing yourself to other people

This is easier said than done, but try to avoid comparing your social life to anyone else’s. Being alone gives you the chance to nurture your relationship with yourself. However, it’s not always easy to do this. You can do this by thinking or journaling about your values, likes, dislikes, and current emotions.

Get to know yourself

Time alone gives you time for self-reflection and self-healing. In solitude, you can turn inwards to assess your needs and thoughts and find solutions to pressing problems. Solitude helps you achieve a degree of mental clarity that you might not have been aware that you needed.

Being alone helps to find love and joy.
